Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center offers a full spectrum of care for pediatric central nervous system conditions resulting from congenital abnormalities, illness or injury. The team - comprised of pediatric specialists in the areas of neurology, neuro-oncology, neuropsychology, neurosurgery and extending to experts specially trained in pediatric anesthesia, intensive care and nursing – offers a continuum of highly-specialized care for each and every patient.
Pediatric Neurosurgery Services
Pediatric Neurosurgery
The Pediatric Neurosurgery Service is located exclusively at the Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital, an advanced free standing, dedicated children’s hospital and Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center. Maria Fareri provides care for the full spectrum of pediatric neurosurgical disorders. Modern techniques, including frameless stereotaxy, endoscopy, and laser ablation, are used in an individualized, patient-oriented approach. All pediatric neurosurgical care is provided in a multidisciplinary fashion as part of several collaborative programs, which include: the Pediatric Epilepsy Program, the Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Program, the Pediatric Craniofacial Program, the Pediatric Peripheral Nerve Program, the Pediatric Vascular and Endovascular Program, and the Pediatric Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) Disorders Program. Pediatric Neuro-Oncology
The Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Program at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital provides comprehensive care for children with benign and malignant tumors of the brain, spine and peripheral nerves. All patients are presented in a multidisciplinary tumor board conference involving pediatric neurosurgeons, pediatric neuro-oncologists, neuropathologists, neuroradiologists, and radiation oncologists. For additional information on tumors and conditions treated, as well as surgical techniques and clinical trials, visit the program page. Care is also available in Hawthorne, Suffern and Poughkeepsie.
Pediatric Craniofacial
In the craniofacial program at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital, patients are primarily managed by both a pediatric neurosurgeon and plastic surgeon. Patients are seen jointly by a pediatric neurosurgeon and pediatric plastic surgeon in our office. All surgeries are performed together in a multidisciplinary fashion. For additional information about the treatment of craniosynostosis and other conditions, visit the program page at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital. Care is also available in Hawthorne, Suffern and Poughkeepsie.
Pediatric Peripheral Nerve
The Pediatric Peripheral Nerve Program offers multidisciplinary subspecialty care for children and adolescents with injury or conditions affecting the nerves of the body outside of the brain and spinal cord. The program has strong relationships with neuro-oncologists, hand surgeons, plastic surgeons, and other specialists to provide quality care to children with peripheral nerve tumors, birth-related injuries (such as Erb’s palsy), and other issues. For additional information, visit the program page at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital. Care is also available in Hawthorne, Suffern and Poughkeepsie.
Pediatric Vascular and Endovascular
Pediatric neurosurgeons provide the full breadth of surgical treatment for vascular disorders in pediatric patients, such as arteriovenous malformations, fistulas, aneurysms and moyamoya. In addition to open cranial surgeries, we have extensive experience with less invasive endovascular treatments, in which a catheter is threaded through the groin or wrist into the blood vessels of the brain. For additional information about conditions treated, visit the program page at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital. Care is also available in Hawthorne, Suffern and Poughkeepsie.
Pediatric Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) Disorders
A part of the Pediatric Neurosurgery Program, the Pediatric CSF Disorders Program treats hydrocephalus and other conditions related to the flow of cerebrospinal fluid. For additional information about specific conditions treated and endoscopic techniques utilized, visit the program page at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital. Care is also available in Hawthorne, Suffern and Poughkeepsie.
